đš Discover Handmade Treasures
The Artisan Market Weekend brings together The Churn Roomâs in-store artisans and a group of guest makers invited for the weekend.
Each stall offers something a little different. Whether youâre after a piece for your home, a wearable accessory or a gift with a personal touch, the market is a nice alternative to mass-produced shopping.
Itâs also a chance to learn more about the people who design and make the items on display. The person behind each stall is the person who made the work, so you can ask about their materials and processes and hear the stories behind what youâre buying.
đ Find Thoughtful Christmas Gifts
With Christmas on the way, November is a good time to start looking for presents. The market features handmade jewellery, homewares, décor, wearable pieces, art and other creative finds.
A handmade item suits someone who appreciates original designs or likes supporting independent makers. You might find a piece of jewellery for a friend, something decorative for a family memberâs home or an artwork that suits someoneâs style.
You donât need a specific gift in mind, either. Part of the appeal is browsing the stalls, discovering new makers and finding something you werenât expecting.
đ Finding The Churn Room
The Churn Room isnât a typical street-front shop, so itâs easy to walk past. Itâs housed inside the historic Dayboro Butter Factory on Williams Street, and youâll reach it by heading through and behind Silverwood CafĂ©. If you canât see a shopfront at number 38, donât assume itâs closed. Look for the cafĂ© and head through.
đïž Make a Day of It in Dayboro
The market is a good reason to visit Dayboro, but it works best as one stop on a broader day in the Moreton Bay hinterland. Once youâve browsed the stalls, take some time to explore the town. Dayboro Cottage at 27 Williams Street is home to the Dayboro District Historical Society and the local information centre, where you can pick up brochures for the self-guided Historical Town Walk and Dayboro Heritage Trail. Dayboro Art Gallery, run by its member artists, is also worth a look, and there are cafĂ©s and eateries around town for coffee or lunch.
If youâd rather spend some time outdoors, the northern Mount Mee section of DâAguilar National Park is about 24km from Dayboro via Mount Mee Road and Sellin Road. Coming from Petrie, Dayboro Road also takes you between Lake Kurwongbah and Lake Samsonvale. We cover the best things to do in [DâAguilar National Park] and around [Lake Samsonvale] in separate guides.
With the market running across two days and closing earlier on Sunday, you can pick the day that fits best with the rest of your plans.
đ A Note on Dogs
The Churn Room is an indoor artisan store and gallery space, so itâs best to leave your dog at home unless youâve checked with The Churn Room beforehand and confirmed dogs are welcome.
đïž Exploring Moreton Bay Over a Weekend
If youâre planning to spend a weekend exploring Moreton Bayâs markets, hinterland towns and outdoor spots, Petrie Mill Motel in Petrie is a practical base. Dayboro Road runs directly from Petrie to Dayboro, so you can head out for the Artisan Market, spend the rest of the day around the hinterland, and still have time for other parts of the region the next day.
